Boast not about tomorrow…

James 4:13-15- New International Version (NIV)

Boasting About Tomorrow

13 Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” 14 Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. 15 Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.”

Points to consider:

  • God is Omnipresent(present everywhere at the same time). He is present in our yesterday, today, tomorrow and forever. He has our future right in His palms and is already present, waiting there for us.
  • Your life is not your own, you have a plan and purpose mapped out for your life by God, even before you were formed in your mothers womb or born. So boast not in what you’ve achieved or will achieve, instead learn to acknowledge Him in all.
  • Take note of the parable of the rich fool who boasted about his achievements and how he was going to to make merry, only for his life to be taken away that night (Luke 12:13-21).
  • Do not get carried away by your current state of achievements that you begin to allot the glory to yourself. This breeds pride and pride goes before a fall (See: Proverbs 16:18). God humbles the proud and gives grace to the humble (See: Luke 14:11).

Prayer:

Dear Father, please grace me with the spirit of humility that I acknowledge you in all that I do and in all of my achievements, that I do not allot the glory that belongs to you to myself, in Jesus name, Amen!.
